Joel, Pat and I have had a great summer of continuing to write songs.  In June I bought a new bass amp, an Ampeg SVT-VR with an 810AV sealed cabinet.  It is the last bass amp I will ever need.  The sound is unbeatable.  Recently I put together a list of prospective demo songs and was pleased to realize that none of our recent songs sound alike.  They’re all very unique.  That said, Joel is continuing to pioneer his own technique on the guitar; it really comes through on the solos.  Joel has always been capable of jaw-dropping solo work (sometimes it throws Pat and I off because we’re so amazed at what Joel comes up with off-the-cuff during rehearsal) but there’s something extra – he’s come up with his own style and sound.  It’s very cool.

Our plan is to continue to finish the songs which are in work now, perfect them in terms of tightness and composition, and then either record a home demo with a digital board or go in and have it professionally done.  We’ll definitely keep you in the loop on the details here at cypresssgroveband.com as things develop…

We’ve been able to cull our efforts into about 13 songs we’re initially considering for recording demos on.  About 8 of those songs are fundamentally complete, and the other 7 are fairly well under way.   Special props go to our friend Knox (www.knoxonline.com) whose advice helped spur on this current burst of songwriting back in January.  The past four months has seen our ability to write songs together grow immensely, and our sound is starting to evolve into more sparse, intricate and in some cases more jazzy fare.

We are shopping the area for gigs that might be a good fit for us.  Practices have been very productive because we’ve been on a hot-streak of creativity, writing new songs and refining old ones.  Currently our goal is to become a more marketable as a band.  As always, we greatly appreciate everyone’s support.  – Pat

We’ve been working on completing songs during the past month.  In three weeks we’ve finished – or put in place the structure for – four new songs.  It’s been amazingly productive.  Our plan is to go into a studio in a few months and record.  In the meantime we’re looking at local venues that might be a good fit.

It’s great to be back with a new web site!  After taking off a year and a half in 2008 and 2009, Cypress Grove is making music once again.  This summer we played at the 2nd Annual Greg Duffin Car Show cancer benefit in Kent, WA and polished up our song list.  The last four months has been very exciting as we’ve written several new songs and have finally spun up the new web site! 

In the next few weeks we plan to book several dates for the summer of 2011.  Please check back often to see when Cypress Grove will be playing near you.
